We've asked Becky, one of our Careline team, to write a guest blog for us.  Becky's mum has a gluten intolerance and they recently went on holiday to Italy, Becky shares her experiences of wheat and gluten free eating out below:

Well hello there readers! My name is Becky; you have possibly spoken to me before whether it is via email or phone.

If you are like me at the moment I am suffering from a severe case of holiday blues, I returned from my jollies in Italy a few weeks ago and I have been chronically depressed ever since. My holiday was a family affair, made more complicated by the fact that my mum suffers from gluten and wheat intolerance; I can almost hear you shouting at the screens saying “tell me about it!”

ANYWAY we had to stock up on tasty gluten and wheat free snacks to avoid a serious case of bloating amongst other things! To be honest we were really pleasantly surprised by what was available on holiday. The supermarkets had an endless selection of gluten free food available and at first we thought the Italian restaurants were going to be a nightmare with nothing but pizzas, garlic bread and pasta... How wrong we were! The majority of the restaurants had their own gluten free section and we stocked up on Trufree snacks prior to setting off which were devoured throughout the holiday and on the three day journey. I can honestly, hand on heart, say that I would be happy eating the Trufree Pretzels for every meal from now on, we all loved them. I’m more of a savoury person myself but we were also a major fan of all of the gluten and wheat free biscuits, my mum’s favourites were the Bourbon Biscuits and the Custard Creams.

I think what makes Trufree even more appealing is that they are stocked in the supermarkets so they are great for convenience. On the other hand I know how supermarkets like to stock your favourite gluten and wheat free snack 40 miles away or for a fortnight and then they disappear off the face of the earth. In these circumstances I would definitely recommend Goodness Direct. They are a wholesaler which stocks the majority of the Trufree gluten and wheat free range and they provide a home delivery service. You can order via telephone on 0871 871 6611 or online.

I also wanted to mention that I have had a number of calls recently from people wanting information on any of our Christmas themed products. I know how hard it can be this time of year for people diagnosed with Coeliac Disease or anyone with food allergies for that matter. I am pleased to say we produce gluten and wheat free Mince Pies which are delicious. I like the fact that people can have the taste of tradition without the repercussions of eating something that’s not going to agree with you! The mince pies are available from Asda stores and I would really appreciate your feedback.
