I’d been looking forward to, and dreading, last week’s family wedding in equal measures.
I went out and bought myself a new frock to please Mum, but in the end it was my Dad who had the wardrobe dilemmas because he “had nothing to wear”, and was too fat to fit into any of his suits! He’s now decided to follow in my footsteps and go wheat-free to try and lose a bit of weight – we will have to see how long he can resist a big bacon sandwich.
It all went quite smoothly in the end. The family rows were kept to a minimum, the only slight hitch being that we were late (due to Dad’s girly traumas), and actually arrived after the bride – very embarrassing.
The reception was lovely, although I was very jealous of everyone scoffing down the canapés whilst we were quaffed our champagne – it seems you can pretty much put anything in/on a bit of puff pastry! Melon balls and parma ham just isn’t as tasty. I was very well behaved though, as the new dress was very tight and left no room for me to bloat up with a ‘food baby’ if I gave into temptation.
No such problems with the sit down dinner and the rest of the day went surprisingly well. It does help that my brother is a bread monster and delights in the fact he gets to have two portions when I’m around. The fact that neither me nor my Mum can remember the taxi drive home, or the photos that appeared on her camera the day after shows that a good time was had by all.
